For a Wise transfer to India, use the arrival estimate shown for your specific payment. The total time includes getting money to Wise, conversion and checks, then INR delivery. Wise’s transfer timing guidance identifies the tracker as the place for the latest estimate.
The three stages behind the estimate
| Stage | What must happen | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Funding | Your payment reaches Wise. | The method you selected and whether the sending bank released the money. |
| Processing | The currency is converted and required checks are completed. | Any request for information and the updated estimate. |
| Delivery | The Indian recipient’s payment is processed. | The delivery status and, if necessary, bank tracing information. |
Wise describes these stages in its delay explanation. A card authorization or a debit on your statement does not prove all three stages are complete.
What Wise publishes for INR bank delivery
The INR guide gives a usual bank-delivery time of one working day after receipt and conversion; conversion can take up to two working days. These are component estimates, not an end-to-end guarantee or a promise to every recipient.
For a payment funded in USD, the USD guide lists funding windows such as zero to four working days for ACH and same-day or next-day receipt for a local wire. Your quote may give a different transfer-specific estimate.
Why some payments take longer
Additional transfer checks usually take two to ten working days and can take longer, according to Wise’s checks guidance. A general arrival statement cannot rule out those checks for your payment.
Banking holidays and weekends also matter. For example, imagine setting up a payment on a Friday evening when the sending bank will not process it until Monday. Counting Saturday and Sunday as two funding days would give the recipient a misleading expectation. This is an illustration, not a quoted delivery schedule.
Plan backward from the recipient’s deadline
Write down the actual date and time the money must be available, especially for tuition or an invoice. Then compare it with the estimate for each funding method in your account.
- If every displayed estimate misses the deadline, discuss another arrangement with the recipient before funding.
- If a cheaper method arrives later, decide whether that saving is useful for this payment.
- If the payment is large or unusual, prepare evidence and leave room for additional review.
The fee guide helps compare cost alongside timing. For US funding details, use the US-to-India guide.
What if Wise says the transfer was sent?
Check whether it is complete and whether the receipt is available. Wise’s confirmation guide explains that the sender can obtain a PDF for a completed transfer; its banking partner reference helps the recipient’s bank trace it.
If the latest estimate has passed, use the stage-by-stage delay checklist. It explains which evidence to collect and who to contact, instead of assigning the same waiting period to every delay.
