New Wise customers can get a fee-free first transfer through an invite link, but later transfers pay normal fees (how the offer works).
Check the destination and currency offered by your account
Before comparing, confirm the bank can send to your Indian beneficiary in the selected currency. If it offers an INR quote, compare the full rupee outcome. If it offers a USD wire instead, ask which bank converts the money and how the eventual INR credit is determined.
Wise offers a US-to-India INR quote. A known recipient amount and a foreign-currency wire with conversion later are different levels of price certainty.
Separate the three cost questions
| Cost | What to ask |

| Sending charge | Is a fee added to the debit or deducted from the principal? |
| Currency conversion | Which institution sets the rate, and when? |
| Intermediary or receiving charges | Can another institution reduce the delivered amount? |
Bank of America states that its exchange rates include a markup and that other charges may apply to international payments. Read the disclosure for your actual wire rather than adding an estimated percentage from a third-party review. Wire pricing and disclosures.
Compare an exact obligation
If an Indian invoice must receive a fixed sum, ask both services how much you must pay and whether the quoted credit accounts for disclosed deductions. If the bank cannot specify the final INR amount, record that uncertainty instead of presenting an artificial like-for-like savings figure.
For a personal savings transfer, confirm the recipient account and required purpose information first. The NRI preparation checklist helps with those records.
What this example shows
